In Flanders Fields KS2 Resources: Poem, PPT and activities

In Flanders Fields is a moving poem which is often associated with Remembrance and Memorial Day, It was written by John McCrae, a Canadian physician and a poet, who served as a soldier during World War 1.  He wrote his poem after noticing how quickly poppies grew around the makeshift graves of the fallen soldiers.  Because of his poem, the poppy soon became known as the flower of remembrance: a symbol to remember soldiers who have died. This resource contains a PPT with the poem, supporting visual images and activities which will help pupils think more deeply about those who lost their lives in war. The PPT is also accompanied by differentiated worksheets and a copy of the poem. Press here to access resource details.

New SPAG Resources for Year 4

I have now added a range of PPTs to aid teaching of the National Curriculum year 4 vocabulary, grammar and punctuation objectives to my TES shop. Some of these objectives are quite tricky and controversial! Nevertheless, regardless of our opinions on ‘fronted adverbials’, or the necessity of requiring pupils to recognise determiners, the expectation that this content is taught is explicit.  The content is labelled as statutory and pupils will be required to demonstrate understanding of such terms when they take their SPAG test in year 6.  View shop

Young Adult Reluctant Readers

I generally write and create resources for the primary sector, but I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to write a book for Badger Learning’s YA Reads. The aim of this series of books is to provide young adults who struggle with reading, or who are reluctant readers, with engaging materials which are appropriate for them in terms of level and content.

My book is part of the visually stunning Badger Learning’s YA Reads II series which is featured below:

My book ‘Wasted’ is about perils of teenage drinking, friendship and change. The main character Layla finds that her relationship with her best friend Jade begins to change after Jade discovers alcohol.

Visit  Badger Learning’s YA Reads II website page  if you’d like to find out more about my book or the YA Reads series.

New SPAG resources!

The National Curriculum for English sets out specific statuatory content which is required to be introduced in each year group to teach vocabulary, grammar and punctuation. I have found it quite tricky to find resources which explain the objectives to primary pupils in a simple easy to understand way.  I have created a set of resources which match the objectives for year 3 and year 5. I plan to produce resources for other year groups later. I have tried to produce resources which are quite straightforward to use and require very little teacher preparation. The PPTs contain explanations, examples and exercises forming complete lessons. The lessons are available for purchase individually or as a set for years 3 and 5 from my Primary Texts shop on TES.
