In the year 6 reading test, pupils frequently struggle with answering more complex questions which require them to explain impressions of characters and settings or aspects of personality. This pack is designed to help pupils develop their inferential skills through discussion using a Zone of Relevance board. This fun and enjoyable to use resource will help your pupils develop the skills they need to tackle those difficult 3 mark questions.
This resource pack includes the following:

- Zone of Relevance boards: A colour version of the Zone of Relevance Board is provided, along with a black and white one which may be preferred if you are looking to save on photocopying costs.
- 6 classic fiction text extracts: Texts have been carefully selected to ensure that they are high-interest and appropriately challenging
- 2 Differentiated character’s adjective lists:Â Set A List contains 20 easy-to-understand adjectives. Set B List contains 40 higher level adjectives. Lists are available in PDF or word to allow for editing.
- 2 Differentiated settings lists:Â Â Set A List contains 20 easy-to-understand adjectives. Set B List contains 40 higher level adjectives. Lists are available in PDF or word to allow for editing.
- 3 mark Impressions Question:Â Zone of Relevance activities are primarily based around discussion. A question template is provided so teachers can create questions demonstrating how they can transfer knowledge gained when using this resource and use it to answer questions in the SATs.
